
Tomas Markevicius

Conservation researcher and a conservator of paintings

Tomas Markevicius is internationally working conservation researcher and a conservator of paintings and contemporary art, and a Ph.D. candidate in art conservation at the University of Amsterdam. He was the Marie Skłodowska-Curie research fellow at New Approaches in Conservation of Contemporary Art (NACCA) project at the Cologne Institute for Conservation Science at Cologne Technical University, and he worked as paintings conservator at Munch Museum in Oslo and National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. He was Fulbright pre-doctoral researcher at the Intermusuem Conservation Association in Cleveland, United States, where her continued as an Advanced Getty Intern. Tomas has been actively involved in conservation sciences and research, international collaboration and research project management; has published and co-authored publications in technical art history, theory of art conservation, and conservation science, that among other topics explore the links between the philosophy of science and contemporary theory of art conservation, application of nanomaterials, and new approaches to precision heat transfer, consolidation of unprotected porous powdery media, enzymatic and gel-based cleaning methods, and most recently the non-contact removal of carbon-based contaminants using atomic oxygen, that includes collaboration with the European Space Agency. He is a co-founder of Precision Mat, LLC www.precision-mat.com, a member of ICOM-CC, INCCA, the European Association of the Philosophy of Science, and a member of the scientific committee of the Florence Heri-Tech, a conference organized by the University of Florence on innovative technologies for cultural heritage.
