Lufthansa tests ‘COVID-negative’ flights

At German airports, you can get tested for COVID-19 through quick tests. The so-called RT-PCR test (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction Test) detects if the tested person has an acute infection with the COVID-19 virus. Since November 8th 2020, a 10-day quarantine obligation has been in place for arrivals from foreign corona risk areas. It is possible to be tested for Covid-19 five days after entry and to end the quarantine prematurely.

The new quarantine regulation states that certain groups of people can be exempted from the quarantine obligation under certain conditions (e.g. proven necessary business trips of up to five days) by a negative test result. Test centres are available for possible tests in Frankfurt, Munich and many other German airports.

The first Coronavirus-free Lufthansa flight departed on November 12th for Hamburg from Munich, with all passengers testing negative before take-off.

All passengers on the second daily flight offering the new service also presented negative test results.

Travellers can also present a negative PCR test that has been taken no later than 48 hours before departure. Once testing is complete, passengers will receive their results via text message and email. The COVID-19 test is offered to travellers completely free of charge before the departure of the two daily flights. The boarding pass will only become active once a negative test result is received. If a passenger does not wish to be tested, then they will be transferred to another flight at no extra cost.
